Anxiety Treatment
Is Incessant Worry Taking Over Your Or Your Child’s Life?
Do ruminating thoughts and fears keep you from feeling in control?
Is a need to do everything perfectly overwhelming you?
Are you unable to cope with uncertainty?
Do you think life would be much more enjoyable if you could simply relax and let go?
Anxiety is the most common mental health disorder, affecting nearly one in five adults in the US. While symptoms of anxiety are widespread among the general population, women develop anxiety at higher rates, and it’s estimated that most anxiety disorders occur by age 15, making children and teens particularly susceptible to anxious thinking.
If fearful thinking has overtaken your or your child’s life so much that you feel like you are struggling to keep your head above water, you may meet the criteria for an anxiety disorder. It’s common for those with anxiety to become hyper-focused on a particular problem, mistake, or interaction (especially in the case of social anxiety). And for children in particular, fears surrounding school shootings and the spread of Covid often result in a refusal to go to school.
Other symptoms in adults and children alike include physical symptoms like body aches, nausea, and difficulty sleeping. These symptoms can become severe enough that panic attacks occur, which involve difficulty breathing, heart palpitations, and an impending sense of doom.
Anxiety Disorders And Neurodivergent Diagnoses Are Often Co-Occurring
Symptoms of anxiety are often present in those who are neurodiverse. If you or your child have been diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), your condition likely involves some degree of anxiety. Many individuals who fall under these categories struggle to tolerate uncertainty and changes in their routines, which can pose daily challenges at home, school, and in other areas of life. Not to mention, these populations typically have a history of overcorrection, which can exacerbate perfectionistic and anxious tendencies.
Furthermore, if you are the parent of a neurodiverse child, you may be extremely worried about their future and ability to be successful. Perhaps you are always anxious about their progress in school and wondering if you are doing things the “right” way. This has probably caused you to feel drained, distracted, and overwhelmed.
Though anxiety is incredibly widespread, it is treatable with therapy and other effective interventions. Working with our clinicians in counseling, you or your child can learn to manage worries and cope with unknowns.

Anxious, Fearful Thinking Is On The Rise
There have always been external stressors that lead to an anxious mindset. Our culture’s FOMO ethos keeps us trapped in comparison mode—an issue only made worse by social media. In today’s technology age, we are absolutely overloaded with information and conflicting perspectives, intensified by an increasingly polarized and violent political climate.
The Covid-19 pandemic added fuel to an existing fire. In 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that there was a 25 percent increase in the global prevalence of anxiety, reflecting the collective stress and trauma we faced in a surge of death, illness, and job loss. Parents who were already struggling to manage their children’s academic progress and mental health became overloaded with juggling work, remote schooling, and few options for childcare.
Unfortunately, many of us living with anxiety believe that this is just the way things have to be. We may not think we have time for therapy or believe that going to therapy signals weakness. However, a trained therapist can actually reduce feelings of overwhelm and anxiety in your or your child’s life. Through anxiety treatment at Broward Therapy Group, you can feel supported on the path to calm and clarity.
Anxiety Treatment At Broward Therapy Group
If you have come to a place where your or your child’s anxiety is no longer tenable, it’s okay—you are not broken or damaged, and asking for help is perfectly acceptable. Therapy can be the first step in relieving you of the stress and worry that has been negatively impacting you.
Our practice welcomes clients of all ages and abilities—including those who identify or have been diagnosed as neurodivergent. As we learn more about your or your child’s unique brain and mental health history, we will offer you customized tools to manage stress and regulate your emotions.
What To Expect
Oftentimes, people seek treatment to identify the single cause of their anxiety with hopes of eradicating symptoms entirely. While it’s possible to reduce the effect that anxiety has on your life, counseling is an equally meaningful opportunity to heal core traumas and explore the many factors that may be contributing to a sense of unease. You may have to reconcile a lifetime of feeling less than and driving toward perfectionism so you can begin to accept yourself as you are and treat your anxiety with compassionate curiosity—rather than resistance—in therapy.
Our therapists use a wide range of creative and behavioral approaches in anxiety treatment. We typically begin the counseling process by helping you establish a stronger wellness foundation and adjusting your routine in ways that will reduce the overall distress you experience. With this in mind, we will likely incorporate mindfulness and other expressive outlets to help you explore and better identify your emotions. Creative approaches (like Play Therapy) are particularly useful when working with children and teens.
We will also incorporate evidence-based therapies into anxiety treatment. Modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) are helpful in treating anxiety because they help you slow down and adjust the thought process while enhancing your skills for distress tolerance.
Anxiety signals that you or your child are expecting too much of yourselves or are in need of resolving something from the past that needs unpacking. By working with our clinicians at Broward Therapy Group, you can learn exactly what your anxiety is telling you and how to respond effectively.
Perhaps You’re Not Sure If Anxiety Treatment Is Right For You…
I tried anxiety treatment(s) in the past and they didn’t work.
If you have tried therapy or anxiety medication in the past only to be disappointed by the results, we can understand why you might be skeptical about going to counseling again. We are curious about how your experience went: What were you seeking at that time/what were your anxiety treatment goals? What kind of relief did you expect? Why were you disappointed in the results?
We often find that people want immediate results when they seek out therapy for anxiety. However, it’s important to be clear and have realistic expectations about how the therapeutic process works; it’s a marathon—not a sprint—and it takes ongoing practice and application of skills. Our therapists will customize their treatment approach to address your unique anxiety symptoms, offering actionable tasks and strategies that you can use early on in therapy to begin reducing the effects that anxiety has on your life.
I don’t have time for counseling.
If you’re concerned about the time commitment of therapy, we are curious: How much time do you spend ruminating over your worries? How much time do you spend checking and perfecting? How much of your energy is spent each day just trying to keep your worries at bay?
Therapy is designed to give your time back to you. It might even be the first time in your life that you can open up your day to new possibilities that don’t involve ruminating and catastrophizing. Even a small amount of relief will feel like a huge step in the direction of a more calm, focused, and deliberate quality of life.
