ADHD Treatment
Is ADHD Impacting Your Or Your Child’s Quality Of Life?
Do you or your child have a hard time with focus, impulsivity, and/or time management?
Are you often getting in trouble or frustrating those around you due to missed appointments and an inability to keep up with your responsibilities?
Do you find that the activities that seem to be easy and come naturally to others require a lot more of your focus and energy?
Have you ever been given a diagnosis of or suspected that you have Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)?
ADHD affects children, teens, and adults, though it presents in different ways among each population. For children, in particular, ADHD might manifest as inattention, hyperactivity, and difficulty waiting their turn. These symptoms are likely to cause your child’s schoolwork to suffer as they have a hard time listening, keeping track of their items, and submitting their homework on time. Though they are capable of understanding the material, you may be concerned that symptoms of ADHD have impacted their academic performance.
Similarly, teens with ADHD may find school increasingly unmanageable. Whether they struggle to focus during tests, stay engaged with the material, or have little to no motivation to pursue their studies and extracurricular activities, you may be concerned that your teenage child is not reaching expected academic milestones. These behaviors may affect your teen’s life at home as they experience difficulties with organization, completing their chores, and keeping their belongings in the right place.

As An Adult With Untreated ADHD, Your Work, Social, And Personal Lives May Be Suffering
Some symptoms of ADHD may be overlooked in childhood and adolescence, written off as defiance, inflexibility, or simply “acting up.” Yet, these symptoms can present real consequences in adulthood if they go undetected. If you have always suspected that your brain works differently than those around you, it’s possible that ADHD is at the root of your struggles.
Perhaps you have a hard time keeping a consistent schedule or routine, which inevitably impacts your work, relationships, and daily life. You may always be running against the clock, causing your partner, friends, or employer to feel frustrated by your tardiness. It may be hard for you to initiate or keep plans with others, which has compromised your social life. And even if you have tried everything from keeping to-do lists and setting alarms, you may feel as though everyday life is simply overwhelming.
Within every age group, ADHD is closely related to symptoms of anxiety, depression, and generalized stress—as well as other forms of neurodivergence like Autism—but fortunately, treatment exists. Whether you are a parent concerned about your child’s ADHD-related symptoms or an adult looking for support in making your life more manageable, the neuro-affirming therapists at Broward Therapy Group are here to help.
But What Is ADHD And How Does It Affect The Brain?
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is a condition that affects the brain’s executive functioning capabilities, impacting memory, focus, organization, and impulse control. It’s often diagnosed in childhood but can sometimes be overlooked. This is especially true for young girls whose ADHD presents differently, which is why boys tend to be diagnosed earlier and more often.
We are learning more and more about the origins of ADHD, but most research indicates that ADHD stems from a combination of hereditary and environmental factors. Some scientists have found that those with ADHD have varying levels of neurotransmitters (like dopamine) in comparison with the general population.
It’s Important To Seek Treatment As ADHD Symptoms Arise
Parents of children with symptoms of ADHD may avoid seeking a diagnosis for their child or teen out of a fear of stigma or limited opportunities. Similarly, adults with ADHD may avoid treatment and instead self-medicate with substances, impulsive spending, or other reckless behaviors. In both cases, a lack of diagnosis and proper treatment is not only likely to exacerbate ADHD symptoms but also perpetuate symptoms of depression, anxiety, and other mental health obstacles related to neurodivergence.
At Broward Therapy Group, we don’t treat ADHD as a character flaw or something to be “fixed.” Rather, our therapists work to empower the innate strengths and abilities of our clients living with ADHD. Together in counseling, we can enhance your or your child’s executive functioning skills so that you can thrive with ADHD.
ADHD Treatment At Broward Therapy Group
ADHD treatment at our practice is designed to help you understand—and celebrate—your unique brain. Our therapists are qualified to make a diagnosis, identify areas of strength and improvement, and offer lifelong skills for managing symptoms associated with ADHD. We welcome all ages, genders, and backgrounds to ADHD treatment.
Our Approach
The long-term objective of counseling is to help you feel empowered rather than defeated by your ADHD. As you develop a stronger awareness of how your brain works, you will learn effective ways to advocate for your needs, establish healthy routines, and foster self-love.
We do this by combining a wide range of verified ADHD treatment modalities, tailoring the counseling process to the age, needs, and goals of each client. Approaches may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which can help you assess your window of tolerance and slow down the thought process. Creative techniques involving art, music, play, and movement may also be used—especially in counseling for children with ADHD—to help foster emotional awareness and new perspectives. Finally, elements of coaching may be included to facilitate goal setting and accountability.
You or your child are not broken, damaged, or a failure. We know that your self-esteem may have been impacted by a lifetime of being corrected, reprimanded, or misunderstood, but at Broward Therapy Group, we welcome you as you are. Whether you’re the parent of a child with ADHD or you have ADHD yourself, counseling can offer you executive functioning strategies to work with your unique brain
Maybe You Have Questions About If Counseling Is Right For You…
Therapy for ADHD won’t help me/my child.
Unfortunately, many well-meaning therapists—especially those that don’t specialize in neurodivergence—maintain old-fashioned views on how to effectively treat ADHD. Outdated therapeutic models rely heavily on a rewards and consequences system that can further perpetuate feelings of frustration and low self-worth.
Our therapists maintain the most up-to-date training and research on ADHD, focusing on executive functioning skills rather than deficits. Not only can this approach to therapy improve symptoms of ADHD—it will target struggles related to anxiety, depression, trauma, and other diagnoses of neurodivergence if present.
Do you take a one-size-fits-all treatment approach to therapy for ADHD?
No. Our treatment approach is primarily collaborative, whether we are working with children, teens, or adults with ADHD. We believe that you are the expert on your brain and our job is to identify new strategies for helping you manage life stressors and responsibilities. As you recognize how certain thoughts and behaviors no longer serve you, we will offer you practical techniques for adjusting those thoughts and behaviors in a more adaptable way.
The most effective treatments for ADHD are solution-focused, not psychoanalytical. Alongside behavioral and creative strategies, we will support you or your child in making lifestyle changes related to sleep, nutrition, exercise, and medication.
Do you prescribe medication in ADHD treatment?
We do not prescribe medication, though we support clients who might benefit from introducing psychiatric medication into their ADHD treatment plan. If you are interested in obtaining a psychiatric evaluation for a formal ADHD diagnosis and/or medication prescription, we will refer you to a psychiatrist who can help.
Therapy for ADHD sounds expensive.
Self-care is essential to every person’s health and wellbeing yet learning how to care for oneself is a skill that must be mastered with practice. Therapy supports the development of essential executive functioning, time management, and emotional regulation skills that will last for life—ultimately allowing you or your child to sustain academic success, employment, relationships, and mental health. Therapy for ADHD is an investment in a brighter future.
